Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach who honed the skills of eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao and helped him reach the pinnacle of success as Ring Magazine?s pound for pound king as well as the ?Fighter of the Decade? at the 85th Annual Boxing Writers Association of America has been inducted into the ?Boxing Hall of Fame.?
Among the other inductees include multi-division champion Thomas ?Hitman? Hearns, two division champion Mark ?Too Sharp? Johnson, Ring announcer Michael Buffer, broadcaster Al Berntein and journalist Michael Katz.
In a response to his selection Roach said ?I'd like to thank everyone, from the bottom of my heart, who voted for me and congratulate those inducted with me today. I started my career in professional boxing with Eddie Futch and now we will be together, forever, enshrined in the International Boxing Hall of Fame with the greatest legends of the sport. I am truly honored and humbled."
Roach?s partner, strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza told the Manila Standard that nobody deserved the recognition more than Roach who had ?given his life to boxing.?
